I am a weary stranger, and I mean no harm, just wanna sing my songs. If you'll bear with me, listen to a story, I promise, I won't take long. People tell me, "You can make a livin'," no matter how rich or meager I decide. But they don't know just how meager I'm gettin', cuz I got nothin' to sell, just songs to pass time. When I left home, I didn't think much of it. Just had to get away, start my own life. Now I'm tired, a wonderin' wanderer, makin' my way how I decide. I met hard love and I met heartbreak and I got plenty o calluses from scrapin' rakes. I worked my way from riches to rags, now, I have very little to worry about. But I don't want you to lose the opportunity to sell yourself, 'cause we all know there ain't nothin' else in life but sales. But I'm tired, and much too excited about somethin' else than to stick around and try to sell myself.

My baby gives me bowls of sugar when I'm sick to help the medicine go down. She may dress up, she may slob around, but she's still the prettiest girl in the world. She brings home the bacon, she brings home the booze! and when we go out dancin', we dance til we fall! She runs to see me. We walk hand in hand. We wander aimlessly with no goals in mind. Who needs 'em?! She don't make me cut my hair, she don't make me shave. I think that's the biggest reason why I like her. Of all the girls in this world for me to call mine - well, she don't belong to me, but I'll stay with her as long as she'll let me.

Little Rosie 09:06
Little Rosie wakes up and puts on her bonnet every mornin' when she gets out of bed. Little Rosie wakes up and puts on her bonnet every mornin' as she gets out of bed. Little Rosie's bonnet is blue and white. Little Rosie's hair is ruby grapefruit red. Farmer Jim puts on his hat and he goes out to put the harness on the mule. Farmer Jim puts on his hat and goes outside to put the harness on the mule. The mule's waitin' up for him. They both know they got a long day to toil. The children run out to the waterin' hole 'cause it's just hot enough outside. The children run out to the waterin' hole 'cause they know it's just hot enough outside. When their eyes aren't open under the water, ya know they're lookin' up makin' shapes outta the clouds in the sky. Little Rosie goes out to milk the cow so the family has butter by afternoon. Little Rosie goes out to milk the cow so the family has butter by afternoon. She keeps an eye out for the ice man so the milk won't spoil, and hopin' he'll bring them some good news. Brother Johnny's away in a place he never heard of for old Uncle Sam. Brother Johnny's in a land he never heard of for old Uncle Sam. The family gets on the best they can, but you know the farm just sure as hell ain't the same without 'im. The mule's gettin' tired and Farmer Jim gets older every day. The mule's gettin' tired and Farmer Jim gets older each day. Ma got sick before Johnny left. Now she rests in her prairie grave. Little Rosie with her hair pulled back washes and mends the family's clothes. Little Rosie with her hair pulled back washes and mends the family's clothes. She's mother of the house now, although she's only sixteen years old. Little Rosie cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the children and Farmer Jim. Little Rosie cooks breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the children and Farmer Jim. The ice man comes and goes. No news is good news, they all suppose, over their meal. They all go to bed so they can wake up and do it again in the mornin'. They all go to bed so they can wake up and all do it again. Before removin' her bonnet, you know Rosie goes and tucks the children in. Little Rosie, why's your hair so ruby grapefruit red? Little Rosie, why's your hair so ruby grapefruit red?

Hello Bottle 04:35
Hello Bottle, how do you do? It hasn't been long since the last time I talked with you. I closed my eyes last night with you on my mind. Please, treat me kinder this time. Poor Bottle, you look old, like your troubles musta busted you. You look cold, like you could use some place to go. I could use one, too. I'm gettin' bored of you, and your mood. You need a shift in attitude. Stop bein' so crude. I want someone else to talk to, but no one's around, so Bartender, send another bottle down. I couldn't sleep. I tossed and turned a fit. I couldn't get you out of my mind. Woke up this mornin' wantin' to hang you high, but I've gone dry. Please, treat me kinder tonight. Well, ya know, three's a crowd, but it's a party with four, and we got the space for one more. Hello, Bottle. Welcome to the show. We're all lookin' for somewhere to go. I'm feelin' flat, but this wagon's got a spare! Bartender, one more down here! I couldn't get you out of my mind. Please, treat me kinder tonight. My motor's caputs, I gotta go. Bottles, it's been a helluva night. Don't y'all go drivin', haha. No, I'm fine. I do this all the time.

Lonely Man 02:53
If I was happy, I wouldn't be satisfied, so I'll just sit here and pine. Lend me your ears and a tale I'll tell. My story, I'm sure you know well. I pass each night with booze and a sigh, sad, yet, sullenly satisfied. I'm just a sad man coverin' my tears the best that I can, and I drink every night until I no longer stand. So hand me a beer, lend me some time, cuz that's all I have to get by. You only get one chance in life and it would kill me if I didn't blow mine. I had health and plenty and an angel from the sky, but to stay with her woulda been a lie, cuz I could look her in the face, but never in the eyes. I turned my back on love and left her behind. And when I start to cry, I refill my beer stein, and I'm nothin' more than a dirty, boozin' barfly. So hand me a beer, lend me some time, cuz that's all I got to get by.

My legs are weary, my feet are heavy, my shoulders slouchin', my eyes are bowin', but I got a long way to go before I know where I'm goin'. My dogs are pantin', my pants are saggin', my shirt's big hangin', my stomach is growlin', but I got a long way to go before I know where I'm goin'. My mind is blurry, my eyes are bleary, my heart's explodin' from all this roamin', but I got a long way to go before I know where I'm goin'. Well, I don't know what's ahead, but I can't stay behind. I know more than I know. I make it up as I go, but I got a long way to go before I know where I'm goin'.

Everything's windin' down, nobody around, I'm layin' on my back with my head above the clouds, and I can hear the lightnin' laughin, and all I got is time, time, time. Everything is calm. I'm all alone, enjoyin' the fresh air, watchin' two storms approach. The clouds below me start to rollin'. It seems I'm runnin outta time, time. Two storms collide. I find myself inside. I tumble with the clouds. They take me for a ride and I'm floatin' high above the rain. Clouds and thunder lift me up, both lightning and sun behold me. Everything's windin' down, storms on their ways out, the sky opens up and I float back onto ground. Guess it didn't rain so much down here. Everyone's back outside with nothin' but time. Your landlord packs your bags, calls you a slacker, sends you on your way, then sends you a ticket back. Well, he doesn't know how bad you needa go astray. Miss your bus. Slack on your own way. If a man says he knows one thing, he's gonna tell you two things. If he tells you he knows two things, be assured he's lyin'. You can't trust a man who knows too much. He's got too much time. If you're feelin' low, don't know where to go; if you say that you're happy but got nothin' to show, find me. I look forward to meeting you. Just don't take up too much of my time. If you say that you're happy and it's plain for me to see, and I don't have to search your eyes for one hopeful gleam, then I'll take kindly to you and hope you take kindly to me. Everyone with the blues has somethin' to choose. Do you piddle through your day wonderin' what should I do? It drives you outta your mind, you say. Take a look at yourself, and don't move. I won't ask you what you see. That's not for me. I got my shit, this is your choice. If you say you're gonna do somethin' and don't, well, I may have to raise my voice. I climb onto clouds headed over town. I'll float away with em. This time I'll follow the rain down, and enjoy the storm and a warm embrace. Sleep through the night and wake with the dawn and move on.
