You
02:50
|
|||
In a dim-lit room
I shake the snow from my hat,
in the glow of a candle,
you sit
and this is where it’s at, love.
this is where it’s at.
I check my coat to a hook
and cut a look toward you
lost in the music, you’re there,
and i know,
this is where it’s at
some may gussy up
in diamonds and pearls
but i chuckle
at these silly girls.
others may don
a fragrant perfume
but you know it only
clutters a room
but here at the table
in the glow of a wick
I pull up a chair beside you,
because
this is where it’s at, love,
this is where it’s at.

Mellow Lagoon
03:10
|
|||
Honey take me by the hand
and we can dance
in the light of the moon
at the mellow lagoon
drinkin’ margaritas in the sand
drinkin’ margaritas with our friends
in a real good mood
at the mellow lagoon
stars are fallin fog’s comin’ quick
but our evenin’ ain’t licked
we’re feelin the groove
at the mellow lagoon
ego don’t know how to get down
so we let ours drown
now it’s a party mood
at the mellow lagoon
the world crumbles in its jealousy
but there’s no time for envy
there ain’t no gloom
at the mellow lagoon
it’s easy for us to get along
grab a hand and sing a song
beneath the cool blue moon
at the mellow lagoon
so honey take me by the hand
and we can dance
in the light of the moon
at the mellow lagoon

Cut Loose Lovers
05:42
|
|||
what mama don’t know don’t hurt er
so keep it down, baby
don’t wanna spoil the thrill
no news is good news for papa
so let’s let ‘im assume
the way he always will
goodie-two-shoes got the blues, baby
that’s why we’re goin out t cut loose in a tight spot
gotta stand up for somethin at some point, honey
i’m ready to taste freedom, now let’s see what she’s got
but what mama don’t know won’t hurt er
and no news is good news for papa
let’s get out from under the gun,
take the money and run
hit the open road with the motherload, honey
let’s take a saw to the top half of this damned old boring car
and let the sun reign down on our holy riot
a ribbon of shattered bottles may lead em to us
but we’re too far ahead to concern ourselves with em anyway
and what mama don’t know won’t hurt er
and no news is good news for papa
barrelin along the wide open highway
with the wind in our hair and the smoke streamin behind
we don’t fight, we drive , you gotta catch us
but you won’t lest you get lucky some damned old night
we’re just gonna drive
ahh yeah
now wrap your lovely little neck in a driving scarf, baby
there’s a chill in the air tonight
roll me a smoke and hand me that bottle, gonna need
all our intentions if we’re to make it overnight
we can check in when we’re across the state line,
play like everything’s fine, and sleep tight off a dark country road
but what mama don’t know won’t hurt er
no news is good news for papa
we’ll drive til the gas runs out, ditch this car
wash ourselves at a motel and go grab a drink in a bar
we’ll head south, how’s that sound? nice and warm,
and make a livin down round oaxaca, honey
livin on goat meat, mangos, and mezcal, baby

Rugged Livin'
03:41
|
|||
My hearts inside out like pockets
a diary’s worth of emotion won’t put the right words in my mouth
my clothes have all been eaten by moths
it’s cold in here and my patches have all worn out
it’s rugged
it’s rugged livin
it’s rugged livin with you sweet baby now that you don’t love me anymore
the bed’s so big it barely fits in the room
but i’m for some reason sleepin out on the couch
you let the dog come in and sleep next to you
what the hell am i doin out here in the damed ol dog house?!
it’s rugged
it’s rugged livin
it’s rugged livin with you sweet baby now that you don’t love me anymore
things were goin so seeminly fine and dandy
cept when i said that one wrong thing
now you ain’t seemin to me so friendly
i guess i’ll let you sleep with the dog
i’ll be here layin like one big bump on a log
maybe tomorrow you’ll come back around
but right now my smile’s upside down and i’m feelin a bit like a frog
you didn’t have to go and order up that movin truck
i was thinkin maybe we could work it out
then you went and hauled my things out to the yard
i don’t even know what the hell you keep carryin’ on about

Drinkin' From The Udder
04:23
|
|||
set me on a dandelion, blow me away!
feel a tickle in yer nostril and maybe have a sneeze
dong the bell and fill up yer plate
tell the joke you tried t tell all night long
say it out loud sit up come outta your cage
blow the note no one else thought to blow
blow another and another and then resolve
tap the cow's belly and keep us hungry
sip the straw danglin from the tummy
settle down settle the sound tip tit tat go the drums
mama didn't raise me up in a barn, boy!
never take for granted all that farm noise
sittin on a tire swing under an oak tree
nuts fallin down from the squirrels above me
birds flittin all around lookin for worms
everything in the sun gettin burned and
the sounds of the summer so good thatcha gotta sing along
country gals wearin their sweet spring dresses
and i'm always goin round makin messes
take yer pick of the chickens crossin the road
pick a bushel of okra, say 30 or so
bring it all together and batter it good
slather it with gravy, baby, like you should
play a fiddle after dinner dance around and then hit the hay
drinkin from the udder got me fresh like linen
i'm in love with this country livin'

Guess We're In Love
04:55
|
|||
I didn’t choose you
You chose me
so I can still leave if I wanna
You didn’t choose me
I chose you
but I can still leave if I’m gonna
Yet every night
when the sun goes down
i go n put on my pajamas
Tonight I choose you
And you choose me
I guess you can say we’re in love
I brought you a steak
on a paper plate
over to the condiment station
You grabbed a ketchup bottle
squeezed it full throttle
and doused it into damnation
oh my oh my, how you made me cry
don’tcha know that’s how my mama died
but i’m still here although you’re crazy, dear
I guess you can say we’re in love
We sit in this house
on this old saggy couch
I lean over my tv tray
I ask you my dear
is the remote near
and you tell me that you just couldn’t say
but after this re-run
and the dishes get done
we’ll put our pjs on
and we’ll each doze off
watching burgers of bob
i guess you can say we’re in love

Dirty Rotten Driver
05:10
|
|||
I’m gonna stretch my tie around my collar, squander my last dollar on a pint of pricey vodka
Take a cigarette out of the ashtray and light it up with a dirty idea
Imagine if you were the rat sleepin in the pallets behind the bar on the river
You can’t look this good and goof around with a lunar eclipse screwball kinda notion
But if the cabby needs to find ‘imself a speedball then i guess i could get ya where yer goin
just keep your eyes out the window and make no mention of the stain on my tie
hey fella don’t be scared
you gotta dirty rotten driver taken you around
ya gonna learn somethin ya mama never wanted you to know
you can learn soon enough to take a tip from the alcoholics teetering down at the pier
you can take your time and ignore all the wisdom the man on the bench has to share
you can kiss a made up gal on the way home together or become a man with one of the nightly women
betty’s gotta get her mornin paper from the man passed out in the lightless cubby hole
read all the headlines that blew around the city yesterday when folks were too busy to wanna know
gotta check the weather to know what tonight’s gonna hold and if she oughtta stick around
hey fella don’t be scared
you gotta dirty rotten driver taken you around
ya gonna learn somethin ya mama never wanted you to know
ya smell that smoke? that’s the smell of sulfer if you didn’t know
and now the sirens start flyin and lightin up the deals goin down in the alley
but they just cruise on by, cause they’re headin downtown to push homeless folks up the road
i like to keep my car clean, it may smell like cigarettes or a room at a musty motel
but when i pick up a rider i wanna look neat, i like a good suit and combed hair
and now i’ll get you where you wanna go, cause i’m just a driver baby, i don’t lie
