If you go down to Deep Ellum, put your money in your shoes. Them ladies in Deep Ellum give you the Deep Ellum blues. Hey pretty mama, your daddy's got them Deep Ellum Blues. Tell your brothers and your sisters your daddy's got them Deep Ellum Blues. I went down to Deep Ellum on a blazin' train track. I barely made it out alive. I ain't never goin' back. Hey mama, daddy's got the blues. Tell your brothers and your sister's your daddy's got them Deep Ellum Blues. Go down to Deep Ellum, put your heart in your shoe. It's gonna get walked on anyway. It might as well be you. Hey mama, I got the blues. Tell your brothers and your sisters you gone and given me the blues.

Rainy Days 03:04
It hasn't rained in such a long while that if you look at the grass wrong it'll catch fire. Canyons cracked through the ground. Not a lick of life in the grass to be found, til rain starts fallin' from those clouds. Rain starts fallin from those clouds. Life then will begin to sprout new again. Yesterday's coffee in yesterday's cup. Dig through the ashtray for yesterday's butts. Ash in the butter, jam on the table top. Can't take breakfast to the back porch, cuz rain keeps fallin' from those clouds. Rain keeps fallin' from those clouds and my back porch is saturated now. I go out with my best gal, round town with the top down. We go out but don't make it far. You can't make it far in an open car when rain starts fallin' from those clouds. When rain starts fallin' from those clouds, my best gal is soaked to the bone now. I get dressed in my Sunday best. Shirt and trousers nice and pressed. I go out for a little stroll, ahh, but wouldn't you know? Rain starts fallin' from those clouds. Rain starts fallin' from those clouds. I'm soaked straight down to my soul now. I didn't think I liked the rain. I didn't think I liked the rain. No, I didn't think I liked the rain, didn't like the rain fallin' from the clouds, but I'll take the rain any day over a drought. Yeah, I'll take the rain any day over a drought, cuz I realize how precious rainy days are now.

The sheets are half-mast and the coffee is burned. A thousand cockroaches crawl through your walls. You said together we could lay our burdens down, but you drowned us in your sorrow and blamed me for matters that only matter to you. The roaches laid eggs, the coffee is cold. Don't bother dressing. I'll leave you to wallow. Delilah, with your mannequin hands, you held me and led me your way. I will hold your hand no longer. You led me astray then told me to lead, then continuously chastised me. Your hands have withered, you legs are bowed. I'll carry myself now by my own. Delilah, with your wicked tongue, while layin' your cards face down, you told me games are fun. But you cheated everyone. Wax-lipped Delilah, with your plastic smile, your eyes, they just aren't that color, and I trust you no longer. You said together we could conquer our goals, but I was never let to set my own. Your smile is cracked, your lips are forgotten. Have what you want. I'll head up the road.

Let It Rain 02:53
These hard times been hangin' over our heads for too long. Told it'll change if we follow someone. I say, No. No. Lordy, no. No. A man threw a rock. His enemy stabbed him with a sword. They both told me they'd been blessed by the Lord. Hard t believe. The man at the bank said I owed 'im some money. I said, You look to be doin' just fine. He said, Don't be funny. Didn't know I made a joke. A man thrust a gun in my gut, said, Your time's up. I said, No, friend. No, it's not. And I lived to tell about it. A storm come by and flooded my neighborhood. My neighbor blamed God, the news blamed the government, the preacher blamed the sinners. Storm had t be someone's fault. These hard times been hangin' over our heads for too long. We're told it'll change if we follow change, but I know that's backwards wrong. Lord, let it rain til the clouds are gone!

I just gotta let you know, Darlin', I love you true, but truly I love her too. It's nothin' against you, babe. It's just the way that I was made. I love to love and I hate to fight, but I know, girl, you've got the right to be upset with me, hope Hell falls down upon me. Distance makes my heart a fool. Distracted and ignorant of protocol, so be upset with me. Hope Hell falls down upon me. Ah, but darlin', you still give my heartstrings quite a strong pull! That's why I'm headin' back your way, even though I told you the situation yesterday, and now you hate me. Well, I guess I can't blame ya. Ah, but you can take me, or I can leave. I just hate to see you so peeved, but it's all my fault, so I'll go if you want. I ain't gonna sit here and plead.
